My name is Jessica and I grew up in Tallahassee, FL. I currently live in PDX as a working professional. I have been living in PDX now for about 5 years. The adventurer in me loves this place. The Pacific northwest and it's beauty has kept me well entertained. Among all the beauty this city is still missing something. As all the people of color living in this city know PORTLAND is SO WHITE! Due to this I have a hard time finding out about black hair stylist, social activities and more. I usually find out through a friend of a friend. I've finally decided to put all this information in one place and share it with the masses. PDX black unicorn is about sharing information on business' and events that appeal or cater to people of color in Portland. I recently got married and one of my struggles was finding a hair dresser. I ended up contacting several women on maternity leave and with each person they were able to refer me to other hairsylist if it weren't for their referral I would have struggled even more in finding someone to do my hair. There were many struggles in being black and planning a wedding here, because of those struggles I've created this website and hope to help out future black brides, and newcomers to the Portland area.
